About the role
We are seeking Food Service Workers to support the Veteran community in the Portland, OR area. This position is open to all candidates, including Locum or Traveling professionals.
Responsibilities
A typical day for the Food Service Workers includes:
- Operating commercial dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently
- Scraping, rinsing, soaking, scouring, and cleaning cookware, trays, utensils, pots, and pans
- Sorting, stacking, racking, and processing dishware through commercial dish machines
- Washing and sanitizing pots and pans using a three-compartment sink
- Properly cleaning, sanitizing, and storing dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment
- Maintaining cleanliness of food preparation and service areas
- Cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment following infection prevention procedures
- Sweeping, mopping, and maintaining assigned kitchen and food service areas
- Separating food waste, trash, compost, and recyclables into designated disposal containers
- Emptying waste containers and transporting refuse to designated outdoor collection areas
- Cleaning patient meal carts manually or using commercial cart washing equipment
- Retrieving soiled meal carts from inpatient units and delivering clean carts to designated locations
- Assisting with food service operations as directed by Nutrition and Food Service supervisors
- Maintaining proper food handling and sanitation practices at all times
- Following all infection prevention, safety, and environmental health procedures
- Interacting professionally and courteously with Veterans, visitors, healthcare staff, and coworkers
- Maintaining compliance with all VA policies, OSHA requirements, food safety standards, and local health regulations
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Current ServSafe Food Handler Certificate or Food Handler Certification from an ANAB-accredited or ANSI-approved program prior to beginning employment
- Ability to perform physically demanding food service duties in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Previous experience with the VA is a plus

Pay and Schedule
The pay for this role is $17.92 per hour, with a 1-year contract. The schedule is Monday through Sunday (as scheduled), and the locations are 1601 E. Fourth Plain Blvd, Vancouver, WA 98661 and 3710 SW U.S. Veterans Hospital Rd. Portland, OR.
