About the role
The Substitute Food Service Worker is responsible for preparing, facilitating, and maintaining food programs and kitchen/cafeteria areas on a per-diem basis. This role supports the provision of meals to students in accordance with the regulations of the National School Lunch Program and associated programs.
Responsibilities
- Perform tasks as directed by the Director of Food Services or designee to facilitate meal provision, including food preparation, service, cash register operation, and clean-up of equipment and kitchen areas following USDA Child Nutrition Program Regulations and HACCP procedures.
- Prepare hot and cold food items as assigned by the Food Service Manager.
- Set up serving lines and serve meals during each lunch period.
- Complete daily tasks assigned by the Food Service Manager, Assistant Manager/Cook, FSD, or AFSD, in addition to tasks listed on the Job Task List.
- Assist with Food Service vending operations and Special Events catering as directed.
- Safely operate all cafeteria equipment.
- Clean and sanitize cafeteria areas, equipment, and serving lines following HACCP procedures.
- Operate dishwasher and 3-compartment sink for proper sanitation of food service equipment (e.g., lunch trays, hotel pans, sheet pans, utensils).
- Travel to various school district buildings as necessary.
Requirements
- Combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of weights, measures, and portion control.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Ability to interact successfully with students.
- Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements.
- Adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment.
Skills
- Verbal communication skills.
- Physical ability to:
- Frequently stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally sit.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Specific vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions
- Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts.
- Moderate to loud noise levels for up to three hours per day.
- Daily use of chemicals related to dishwashing and dishwasher operation.
Pay
Hourly Rate: $15.00/hour
