About the role
Under general supervision of the Food Service Director or designee, perform daily food service activities, assist in the preparation of school meals, and serve meals to students and site staff. The incumbent will perform routine cleaning tasks in a school cafeteria, cooking kitchen, or production kitchen, and do related work as required.
This is the entry-level position in the food service class, typically a part-time position.
Schedule
- 9.5-month work year
- 6.0 hours per day, 5 days a week
- Clock hours: 8:00 am to 2:30 pm (30-minute unpaid lunch), subject to change
Pay
$20.85 to $25.33 per hour

Requirements
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
- Serve Safe certification preferred
- Commercial food service experience preferred
- Upon conditional offer of employment:
- Department of Justice Criminal Background Check
- TB Test within the past 60 days (Education Code 49406, Assembly Bill 1667)
- Complete district Mandated Reporter training, Sexual Harassment training, etc.
- Must obtain and maintain a First Aid/CPR Certificate (In-Person Training ONLY)
- Pre-Employment Physical Evaluation conducted through the District (minimum 31 pounds lifting requirement)
Physical demands
- Stand for extended periods
- Operate kitchen tools, utensils, and equipment requiring repetitive hand movement
- Inspect documents and other written materials
- Sufficiently move about the kitchen, cafeteria, and school site
- Move, lift, push, and/or carry large or small objects weighing up to 31 pounds in the school cafeteria, food storage area, or freezer
- Climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching
- Reaching, handling, touching, and/or feeling
- Manual dexterity to operate a telephone and enter data into a computer
