Food Service Worker - Housing & Food Services (Multiple Positions)

About the role

Reporting to the Executive Chef/Manager, the Food Service Worker 1 is a key team member in a dynamic, high-volume food service environment alongside full-time and student employees. Responsibilities include guest customer service, assembling and serving food items, preparing beverages, assisting cooks with menu production, cashiering, and maintaining cleanliness. Positions may be 9-month or 11.5-month cyclic roles located at various UW Dining venues. The role is 100% onsite and not eligible for remote work. Schedules may be changed with two weeks’ notice.

Responsibilities

• Food Service Operations – 70%
  • Perform basic preparation: paring fruits and vegetables, reheating refrigerated or frozen soups, assembling sandwiches and salads, toasting bread, preparing hot and cold beverages, and packaging grab-and-go items.
  • Set up workstations and/or display counters based on production sheets and established plans.
  • Receive customer orders and answer questions about ingredients, recipes, and pricing.
  • Gather, assemble, package, and serve menu items to customer order.
  • Prepare specialty beverages to customer order.
  • Operate point-of-sale systems, accurately key in sales, and process payments.
  • Maintain compliance with PCI training requirements and standards.
  • May participate in inventory.
• Cleaning, Food Safety and Sanitation – 30%
  • Restock and rotate stations according to established plans, par levels, and food handling policies.
  • Continuously clean, sanitize, and maintain order of workstations, prep areas, service counters, and seating areas.
  • Sweep and mop workstation and prep areas.

Required Qualifications

• Possession of, or eligibility to obtain, a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment.

Working Conditions

UW Dining operates in fast-paced, dynamic environments including residential dining facilities, cafés, restaurants, and markets. Peak operations occur mid-September through mid-June, and employees are expected to prioritize availability during this period, with extended time off around academic breaks or outside the academic year.

Pay

Annual pay range: $45,144.00 – $49,500.00.
