About the role
This position may work anywhere on property where food is prepared and/or served. Responsibilities include assisting with setup and serving of food from patient trayline, counters, and steam tables, preparing simple food items, and cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work stations.
Responsibilities
- Read and follow recipes and/or product directions.
- Estimate food requirements based on recipe recommendations or direction.
- Operate a variety of kitchen utensils to weigh, measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, grind, stir, strain, season, and knead foodstuffs for cooking, serving, and storing.
- Assist in the preparation of hot and/or cold foods, and properly store food, utilizing knowledge of temperature requirements and spoilage.
- Inspect workstations for compliance with service standards.
- Keep records and requisitions for supplies/equipment as needed.
- Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment following all Keck Medicine of USC, client, and regulatory rules and procedures.
- Taste test products.
- Set up stations with entrées, soups, salads, breads, condiments, other food products, and appropriate utensils.
- Provide general stocking duties in service area.
- Serve and replenish food from counters, steam tables, and patient tray line.
- Break down stations at the end of meal periods.
- Brew coffee and tea; change cartridges in Coke machine.
- Restock other beverage areas as required.
- Interact with customers in serving, retail, and dining areas; may interact with patients and unit personnel if assisting with meal tray delivery.
- Provide excellent customer service; assist customers with opening containers and cutting food when requested.
- Attend all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training.
- Comply with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures; report all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
- Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments.
- Comply with all Keck Medicine of USC policies and procedures.
- Attend training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience if no high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service behavior.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) – if not already certified, must obtain within 30 days of hire and maintain by renewal before expiration (required within LA City only).
Pay
The hourly rate range for this position is $21.84 – $34.48. The final offer will consider factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, and external market and organizational considerations.
