FOOD SERVICE WORKER/CASHIER (FULL TIME)

About the role

Chartwells K12 is hiring immediately for a full‑time Food Service Worker/Cashier at Westlake Middle School, 825 West Lake Drive, Thornwood, NY 10594.

Schedule

Full‑time schedule: Monday through Friday, 5:30 am to 1:30 pm. Note: During school breaks (e.g., winter and summer) when food service needs decline, work may be unpaid and treated as a temporary layoff; year‑round work may be required at different locations based on business needs.

Pay

Pay range: $17.00 – $18.00 per hour.

Requirements

Prior food service and cashier experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform prep work: washing, peeling, cutting and seeding fruits and vegetables.
• Weigh and measure designated ingredients.
• Carry pans, kettles and trays of food to and from work stations, stove and refrigerator per safety standards.
• Distribute supplies, utensils and portable equipment.
• Store foods in designated areas following wrapping, dating, food safety and rotation procedures.
• Clean work areas, equipment and utensils.
• Ensure compliance with sanitation and safety requirements.
• Use approved food recipes and production standards for quality, serving temperatures and portion control.
• Serve customers in a friendly, efficient manner following outlined steps of service.
• Interact with customers and resolve complaints in a friendly, service‑oriented manner.
• Relay relevant information to supervisor.
• Perform sales transactions; enter sales into cash register to ensure accurate recording.
• Make change, accept declining balance cards and other acceptable forms of payment.
• Issue receipts to customers.
• Follow standard procedures for issuing cash refunds.
• Responsible for assigned change funds and cash receipts; ensure cash drawer complies with overage/shortage standards.
• Replenish condiments, beverages and general supplies while maintaining service area cleanliness.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
