About the role

The Association for Individual Development (AID) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with various challenges to lead dignified and purposeful lives. We seek a Food Service Tech who embodies our mission and is committed to making a difference in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in training clients in basic food service skills and positive work behaviors to enhance their independence and prepare them for community employment.
  • Train clients in basic cooking skills and meal planning under the guidance of the Licensed Dietician.
  • Implement the hot lunch program for Community Day Services (CDS) clients in both Aurora and Elgin locations and assist in the Food Truck program.
  • Provide programming 50% of the time in Aurora and 50% of the time in Elgin Community Day Services to ensure continuity across assigned day programs.
  • Train Residential Staff in basic cooking, meal planning, and nutrition.
  • Develop a nutritionally sound menu and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Document client programming and maintain accurate records.
  • Complete required trainings such as DSP within 120 days of hire, CPR and FA certifications, HIPAA, Infection Control, and Hazard Communication trainings, and Food Service Certification.
  • Communicate positively and effectively with clients and staff, fostering a supportive team environment.
  • Conduct classes and assist in curriculum development.
  • Manage inventory and ensure supplies are in working order.
  • Drive clients in a personal vehicle as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Current Certification in Food Service Sanitation and complete ServSafe Certification within 30 days of employment.
  • One year of experience in Food Service, preferably with individuals with developmental and/or behavioral health disabilities.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective computer skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic client record systems.
  • Flexibility in teaching methods.
