About the Role
The CNP Food Service Specialist (FSS) is a professional who assists with the operation of a food preparation and service establishment. FSS are tasked with serving customers, stocking supplies, operating equipment, maintaining clean areas, and operating point-of-sale (POS) systems. Food service specialists work under the supervision of the Cafeteria Manager and often serve food for large groups, such as students.
Responsibilities
- Assist in food preparation, food safety, and food quality assurance for students.
- Provide customer service and interact with staff, students, and families daily.
- Operate food service equipment and maintain food service spaces; notify manager of equipment malfunctions.
- Perform cafeteria cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, wiping tables, washing dishes, disposing of trash, and moving cafeteria tables and mobile work vending stations.
- Load and unload food and non-food products weekly.
- Encourage students to participate in the meal program, especially when they are seen not eating.
- Ensure accurate counts of student meals as they are delivered.
- Ensure reimbursable meals are offered to students.
- Ensure meals are ready per campus meal schedules for breakfast, lunch, snack, and supper.
- Follow all recipes and report errors to the Cafeteria Manager.
- Adhere to established processes and procedures; discuss exceptions with the Cafeteria Manager.
- Monitor students during meal periods (e.g., appropriate behavior, encouraging consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, preventing food sharing).
- Cut and chop fruits and vegetables.

Requirements
- 1+ years of work experience demonstrating the ability to handle physical activity for multiple hours while on feet.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds solo and up to 50 pounds with a partner, bend, pull, push, twist, stand, and walk during a work shift.
- Ability to obtain a locally recognized manager food safety certification.
Physical Requirements
- Intermittent standing, walking, pushing, and pulling.
- Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing (e.g., ladders).
- Ability to withstand moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
- Ability to move and handle mixed weights, including cafeteria tables, carts, and trash cans/bags.
