Food Service Manager
About the role
The Food Service Manager at Fresh Thyme Farmers Market is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Food Service Department, including staff, sales, margin, and labor. This role requires a strong background in grocery retail, with a focus on natural foods and organic products.
Responsibilities
- Prepares weekly sales and labor projections to maximize sales and profits
- Maintains proper ordering and inventory control, ensuring accurate weighing and labeling
- Hires, trains, schedules, coaches, and conducts performance reviews for the Food Service Department staff
- Oversees shift operations, including writing and approving Department work schedules
- Stocks food service cases, maintains cleanliness, and monitors expiration dates
- Manages department inventory control, ensuring no out-of-stock or overstock issues
- Monitors and controls all costs and expenses, including balancing the food service general ledger and financial statements
- Ensures cleanliness and organized appearance of food service aisles, storage areas, and work areas
- Responds to customer inquiries, assists with purchases, and cross-sells products
- Inspects and logs products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality
- Monitors and maintains proper temperatures during production of deli, cheese, and bakery items
- Uses knowledge of scales, weights, and measures to accurately weigh and label products
- Manages pre-inventory preparation, including back stock and assuring tags match products
- Ensures proper presentation and organization of all product items
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency degree
- A minimum of 4 years professional experience, with a preference for 3-5 years in grocery retail, specifically in Food Service department processes and procedures
- Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus
- Advanced attention to detail, prioritization, and meeting deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as organizational and multitasking abilities
- Knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Advanced knowledge of math, weights, and measures
- Ability to analyze and interpret Company financial statements and results
- Skills working with all food service equipment such as knives, slicers, scales, and ovens
- Ability to follow and direct team to follow recipes, specifications, and schematics

- Must be familiar with Health Department guidelines and regulations as they pertain to a grocery retail environment

- Must have skills working with all food service equipment such as knives, slicers, scales, and ovens

Pay
The pay range for this position is $20.50 - $30.05 per hour. Specific pay rates will be within this range and based on your experience, qualifications, and skills compared to the internal team of this role. Compensation for this position also includes incentive bonus opportunities that may vary based on individual and company performance.
