About the role

The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice is a multi-faceted agency that serves juveniles of the Commonwealth. While striving to hold youth accountable for their actions, the Department creates opportunities for sentenced, committed, probated, or detained youth to develop social and career skills that will equip them for re-entry into their communities as productive and responsible citizens. This position is deemed essential and has been designated for mandatory operations; therefore, the incumbent is not eligible for Adverse Weather Leave.

Although medical cannabis has been legalized in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, employees in this position are prohibited from using medical cannabis due to other applicable state or federal laws.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the preparation of food and provides general cooking in a Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) facility.
  • Prepares food and provides general cooking.
  • Prepares menus and consults with nutritionists and other professional contacts.
  • Maintains records of the amount of food served and the number of individuals served.
  • Prepares all forms for the federal school lunch program.
  • Maintains records for government commodities received and used; provides forms to the Department of Agriculture.
  • Provides instructional kitchen skills to juveniles assigned to kitchen duties and ensures proper supervision of juveniles.
  • Prepares food requisitions and maintains food inventories.
  • Maintains logs and inventory books on received or used foods and supplies.
  • Maintains routine records for daily costs of meals.
  • Maintains and reports attendance on juveniles for federal programs.
  • Ensures new food items are received, checked, dated, and stored properly.

Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Four years of sub-professional or professional experience in a food service operation.

Pay

$32,469.60 - $48,705.12 annually (Pay Grade 11)

Schedule

37.5 hours per week
