Food and Nutrition Services Head Cook - 7.5 hrs/day (190 days/school year)

Pay

$17.16 per hour

Schedule

• 7.5 hours per day
• 190 days per school year (Hayes Elementary calendar)
• 6:00 am – 1:30 pm

Responsibilities

• Serve breakfasts and lunches that meet federal, state, and district requirements
• Oversee food-service activities at a satellite location, including heating convenience foods per manufacturer/district instructions
• Order foods and supplies
• Supervise food-service personnel
• Control food and supply costs through inventory management, proper storage and handling, and portion control
• Maintain records (production, payroll, attendance) required by federal, state, and district regulations
• Maintain sanitation, safety, production, service, and food-quality standards
• Communicate effectively with students, faculty, parents, coworkers, and supervisors in person, by phone, email, and in writing
• Maintain good public relations
• Inspect equipment periodically and recommend repairs or replacement
• Assist in integrating the school food and nutrition services program into the educational program
• Assist the manager in monitoring site performance and developing improvement strategies
• Cover shifts in buildings other than the assigned location as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

Physical demands

• Able to work in a standing position for prolonged periods and walk much of the day
• Able to work in very warm surroundings
• Manual dexterity to handle knives and other kitchen equipment
• Able to lift materials weighing at least 46 pounds
• May be required to climb stairs

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Competence in all stated areas of responsibility
• ServSafe certification (must obtain within 6 months of hire)
