FOCUS Missions Specialist
About the Role
FOCUS Missions is one of the fastest growing Catholic mission trip organizations in the world, sending thousands of participants around the globe to encounter and serve poverty in all forms. The Missions Specialist is a core member of the FOCUS Missions team who trains and coaches Mission Directors to carry out successful mission trips, serving the poor in charity and truth while helping participants deepen their relationship with Jesus.
This role includes routine meetings with trip directors, vision casting, and adherence to department processes (checklists, booking procedures, payments, etc.) while striving to elevate staff care and efficiency. Mission Specialists may also take on additional projects based on skillset and bandwidth to further team effectiveness. Salary is based on Mission Partner Development (MPD).
Responsibilities
- Trip Success and Management
- Manage comprehensive planning and logistics for 10-20 trips
- Direct a trip during one mission season
- Serve as an on-call director or leader during the other mission season ("Firefighting")
- Hold bi-weekly meetings with directors to delegate tasks, review checklists, set recruitment and fundraising goals, and provide support
- Trip Finances
- Build and update initial budget monthly
- Ensure projected funds are adequate without excess
- Confirm expenses with host and set final budget no later than 2 months prior to departure
- Complete host payments no later than 1 month prior to departure
- Host Relationships
- Maintain positive relationships by building rapport
- Review past After-Action Reports (AARs) and trip one-pager at the beginning of the season
- Administrative Support
- Complete designated coach tasks accurately and on time
- Maintain accurate deadlines in the checklist
- Update all required platforms immediately when trip information changes
- Ensure trip logistics follow all departmental processes and procedures
- Upload all required trip information to Box and SS before departure
- Complete AAR, Mission Quality Report (MQR), and other post-trip tasks within 1 month of trip end
- Communication
- Respond to emails within 48 hours and calls/voicemails/texts within 24 hours
- Convey themes of trust, safety, empathy, ownership, and transparency
- Communicate policy or procedure deviations to manager immediately
- Proactively communicate with managers and teammates
- Mission Partner Development (MPD)
- Achieve and maintain $3,500 in monthly support
- Set a 14:28 number and create a plan to achieve it within 12 months
- Adhere to Wednesday morning MPD time
- Send monthly email updates by department deadline
- Schedule at least one ask per day when traveling for MPD
- Coach Training and Development
- Prepare for each training session by reviewing required material
- Attend all training sessions and make up missed sessions within 1 week
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of policies and risk management
- Attend and participate in each Coach Development meeting
- Special Projects
- Fulfill requirements for mission director and/or leader roles on time and accurately
- Attend all required meetings associated with additional projects
- Complete required tasks for additional projects on time and accurately
Qualifications
- Ideally 2+ years of experience as a campus missionary
- Ideally Team Director qualified
Pay
For this role, we anticipate paying $42,000 - $54,000/year. This range is an estimate and may vary based on qualifications, experience, abilities, geographic location, and duties.
Personal Mission Partner Development (MPD) is required, with an expectation to fundraise between $3,500-$4,500 a month to support your work with FOCUS. Training and time for fundraising efforts will be provided.
