Fluids Systems Technician (Starship)

About the role

As a Production Fluids Systems Technician, you will build, install, and troubleshoot fluid systems in support of the Starship production facility. Technicians play a key role in the design process by providing feedback to engineers on system operation and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and install fluid system components from schematics or engineering drawings, including stainless steel/aluminum piping, ball/check valves, pressure regulators, and sensors/gauges.
  • Read and interpret planning documents, schematics, datasheets, manuals, drawings, blueprints, and engineering sketches.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace faulty components of ground hardware, test, and integration equipment.
  • Connect and verify pressure transducers, thermocouples, and other sensors.
  • Complete necessary wiring of electrical ground support equipment for ground systems.
  • Perform high-pressure liquid and pneumatic testing.
  • Troubleshoot and repair high-urgency operational issues found during activation or production usage of fluid systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • 3+ years of experience using mechanical and/or electronics hand tools.
  • 3+ years of experience with pipe fitting and fabrication.
  • Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs unassisted.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 25%. Position is based in Brownsville, TX, but extended work at other SpaceX facilities may be required.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work in confined spaces.
  • Must be willing to work all shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed.
  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful permanent resident (green card holder), Refugee under 8 U.S.C.1157, or Asylee under 8 U.S.C.1158, or be eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience working at a rocket launch facility and supporting launch campaigns.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting complex fluid and mechanical systems.
  • Experience maintaining a propulsion test stand in the aerospace industry.
  • Experience with orbital or structural welding.
  • Machining and metal fabrication experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Experience with mechanical repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with pneumatic/hydraulic system fabrication.
  • Familiarity with calibrated measuring instruments.
  • Experience using heavy equipment, including overhead cranes, forklifts, and manlifts.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed schematics, drawings, and instructions.
