About the Role
The Fluids Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise and testing requirements related to hydraulic and transmission fluids—combination fluids, grease, gear lube, transmission and axle lubricants, engine oil, engine coolant, OAT engine coolant, brake fluids, biodiesel blend fuel, diesel fuel, and conditioners—to support different groups and product lines within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert, supporting and engaging in all fluid projects that comply with business objectives and environmental requirements, while identifying potential problems and suggesting corrective measures across departments and product lines.
- Collaborate with technical team members in Materials Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Product Engineering, and Product Validation to support fluid development and testing activities.
- Determine required testing for all fluids used in company products, adhering to national and internal corporate standards and test methods.
- Diagnose root causes of fluid non-conformance and related failures, perform fluid testing, and provide recommendations for improved performance.
- Analyze fluid samples from test benches for cleanliness, fluid degradation under service/test conditions, and wear of mating components, particularly for driveline components across different products.
- Provide technical input for corporate fluid specifications and test methods.
- Approve and document new or changed fluid formulations, requiring thorough knowledge of fluid chemistry, key characteristics, and production processes to capture and document necessary formulation details for approval.
- Organize and lead technical discussions on fluids through structured meetings with internal departments and fluid suppliers.
- Work closely with the Compliance team to ensure fluid compliance by updating or releasing new corporate material standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science and/or Engineering with a chemistry background or similar.
- 6+ years of experience in fluid development and/or processing with laboratory fluid analysis experience.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of internal customers at all levels within the company.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take ownership of projects to completion.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience operating laboratory equipment for fluid analysis.
- Knowledge of national standards and procedures for fluid testing.
- Knowledge of materials application and related processing for off-highway applications (preferred).
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Strong and clear communication skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams across different regions.
- Ability to lead technical discussions with clear objectives and deliverables.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Science and/or Engineering (highly preferred).
Pay
The annual salary for this role is $86,625 - $132,825 plus any applicable bonus. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as skill, experience, and qualifications for the role.
