Fluid Systems Engineer
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform design and analysis of inert fluid and gas systems, ensuring safe operation, proper component selection, and compliance with mission requirements.
- Develop and maintain P&IDs and parts lists, including configuration control, documentation updates, and integration with broader system design artifacts.
- Create and document hazard analyses, identifying system-level and component-level risks and defining mitigation strategies.
- Design systems in accordance with applicable national consensus codes, including ASME, NFPA, and CGA standards.
- Produce manufacturing and integration documentation for fluid systems, including fabrication drawings, assembly procedures, and acceptance criteria.
- Develop operational documentation such as activation procedures, test plans, runbooks, and maintenance instructions for fluid system operation.
- Support pressure system certification, including preparation of certification packages, coordination with safety authorities, and resolution of compliance findings.
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, electrical technicians, and mechanical technicians to ensure seamless integration, testing, and troubleshooting of multidisciplinary systems.

- Demonstrated creative and hands-on mechanical aptitude, with the ability to conceptualize, prototype, troubleshoot, and refine mechanical and fluid system designs.
- Strong team orientation with the ability to work independently, balancing collaborative problem-solving with self-directed execution of technical tasks.
Education/Experience
- Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering degree with one of the following combinations of education and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree with more than 20 years of experience
- Master’s degree with more than 15 years of experience
- Ph.D. and more than 10 years of experience.

About the Role
HX5 is a fast-growing veteran and woman-owned company with locations nationwide. We are seeking a Fluid Systems Engineer to support the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center in Brook Park, Ohio.
Qualifications
The position requires both technical depth and cross-disciplinary coordination, including collaboration with teams responsible for electrical engineering, manufacturing, integration and checkout, certification, and system operations. You will serve as a technical leader ensuring the system is developed, tested, and operated safely and effectively.
Skills
The position requires a combination of technical skills and soft skills, including the ability to conceptualize, prototype, troubleshoot, and refine mechanical and fluid system designs, as well as the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and balance collaborative problem-solving with self-directed execution of technical tasks.

Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work required for testing and certification activities.
