Site Investigations

  • Manage site investigations
  • Perform quantity/material takeoffs
  • Evaluate estimates for extensions, accuracy, and errors

Budgeting/Costing

  • Create estimate schedules for tendering reviews
  • Prepare budgets and cost analyses

Contacting Sub-Trades and Suppliers

  • Seek out sub-trade and supplier quotations
  • Evaluate sub-trade quotations
  • Recommend sub-trades

Tender Closings

  • Participate in tender closings
  • Compile and condense successful and unsuccessful tenders
  • Follow up with invited sub-contractors/suppliers to confirm intentions to quote

Sub-Contractor/Supplier Relations

  • Maintain relationships with sub-contractors/suppliers
  • Update unit price and productivity databases

Career Progression Plan

  • Develop and maintain career progression plans

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary Construction Engineering Technology School graduate or BSc Degree in Quantity Survey
  • Minimum of 5-10 years estimating experience in commercial, institutional, and/or industrial buildings
  • Knowledge of estimating and costing of structural concrete and structural steel building systems
  • Experience with projects ranging from 5 million to 50 million
  • Ability to perform conceptual estimating based on written or verbal instructions
  • Advanced knowledge of sub-contractor work scopes, estimating techniques, and costing
  • Experience with MS Project and/or Primavera P6 Scheduling software
  • Ability to prepare estimating schedules for tendering review
  • Experience with earthwork takeoff programs (Agtek or equivalent) is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
