Floral Designer

About the role

A part-time, year-round position for a creative individual to join a growing team in a fast-paced retail store and floral shop. The role involves fulfilling daily floral orders with attention to detail and an eye for color and composition, assisting customers, maintaining the shop, and participating in projects such as small events, weddings, and retail displays.

Responsibilities

• Floral Design (50-70%)
  • Apply accumulative design skills in a variety of styles: fresh arrangements/wraps, dried arrangements/wraps, plant gardens, and wreaths
  • Fulfill in-person or online orders
  • Keep the daily wrap rack stocked
  • Handle additional design tasks such as special events, installations, and window displays
• Retail Customer Service & Sales (20%)
  • Take floral orders on the computer/iPad, whether in-person or over the phone
  • Engage with customers as they enter the store
  • Educate customers on:
    • Types of flowers, varieties, longevity, and maintenance
    • Different types of plants, light requirements, and hardiness
  • Sell hard goods, candles, stationery, jewelry, and clothing, with knowledge of vendors/artists to assist customers
• Local Deliveries (15%)
  • Route deliveries
  • Call recipients
  • Write cards
  • Wrap arrangements
  • Safely deliver items in a timely manner
• Shop Upkeep (10%)
  • Perform opening/closing duties
  • Maintain displays
  • Unpack and process new inventory as needed
  • Tend to plants, wash buckets, and handle other cleaning duties
  • Break down boxes and remove rubbish

Requirements

• Preferred floral and/or design experience, or a desire to learn with a love of art/design
• Motivated, hard-working, positive attitude, and ability to adapt to the Mum’s aesthetic
• Ability to accept constructive criticism and a desire to grow and learn in a creative environment
• Retail customer service experience is highly desirable but not required
• Flexible schedule; must be able to work weekends
• Clean driving record
• Proficient with iPad and iMac
