Flora- en vegetatiekartering te Houtrak

About the role

This season, on behalf of Staatsbosbeheer and as part of the Natuurmonitoring.nl cooperative, we are conducting vegetation mapping in Houtrak, a nature reserve located on the western edge of Amsterdam, adjacent to the harbor area. The reserve is relatively young and influenced by brackish seepage from the North Sea Canal. This unique combination allows for exciting discoveries—recent finds include new species for the area such as small rattle, yellow pimpernel, slender centaury, and marsh felwort.

No comprehensive vegetation mapping has ever been carried out in this young reserve. This work is particularly meaningful as it will provide the first full-coverage insight into the area. In short, it’s an engaging and surprising mapping project with rewarding results.
