Summary Description
Perform skilled flooring and some carpentry work in support of the proper maintenance of District properties. The position is responsible for performing manual labor, maintaining equipment and tools, completing work orders in a timely manner with minimal service disruption, and maintaining accurate work records. The position works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Performs Skilled Flooring Work
- Identifies and inspects maintenance and repair needs and safety concerns throughout District facilities
- Evaluates and makes recommendations to supervisor for the most efficient methods of accomplishing repairs
- Reads and interprets blueprints and other drawings
- Aids in estimating and planning project materials, costs and labor requirements
- Installs and/or assists in the installation of walls and ceiling systems, millwork, roofing systems and floor coverings, doors and windows
- Installs equipment in windows or walls
May Prepare Specifications and Maintain Equipment
- Makes preparations for, orders, installs and maintains proper procedures and controls/records
- Builds, alters, repairs, modifies and/or installs furnishings, fixtures and equipment, including but not limited to all buildings and structures
- Assists in instructing the work of helpers, laborers and/or contractors as assigned
- Maintains assigned trucks and equipment; performs cleaning, preventive maintenance and simple repair work as required
- Operates various hand and power tools as necessary to accomplish tasks
Other Maintenance and Repair Duties
- Performs other maintenance and repair duties as designated by supervisor
- Performs duties in accordance with all department policies, procedures, and standards of quality and safety
Documentation and Training
- Documents labor hours and materials used on assigned tasks
- Attends training and meetings as required to exchange information and to enhance job knowledge and skills
Qualifications
- Requires High School diploma or GED
- Four (4) years of related experience
- Valid Driver’s License (proof of education, training, and/or experience is required)
