Floor Tech

Position Description

Performs day‑to‑day activities of the housekeeping and maintenance department in accordance with current Federal, State, and Local standards, guidelines and regulations governing the facility, as directed by the Administrator and/or supervisor. Responsible for total floor care and facility maintenance to ensure a clean, safe and comfortable environment.

Responsibilities

• Follow work assignments and schedule to wash, seal, wax, and buff all facility floors.
• Perform maintenance tasks such as checking/replacing light bulbs, cleaning lint from dryers, vents, and registers in resident rooms and other areas.
• Keep grounds cleared of debris; sweep front entrance and patio, clean ash trays, ensure outdoor furniture is clean and usable; hose out garbage cans.
• Wash windows and exterior screens as assigned.
• Assist with lubricating potty chairs, wheelchairs, shower chairs, Geri chairs, drug carts, etc.
• Perform general housekeeping/cleaning duties to maintain a sanitary, safe, attractive, and orderly environment.
• Clean offices, handicap and visitor restrooms, activity room, kitchen restroom, service entrance, therapy room, entrances/exits, utility areas, closets, lounges, lobbies, halls, and other areas according to the department cleaning schedule.
• Perform emergency housekeeping as needed.
• Clean, dust, wash, and disinfect all fixtures, floors, walls, doors, and ceilings.
• Scour and polish water fountains, sinks, mirrors, glass panels, brass, and other furnishings.
• Change soiled slipcovers, scarves, doilies, and arrange furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion.
• Clean ledges, shelves, vents, windows, window sills, etc.; remove and re‑hang curtains, drapes, and dividers for cleaning when needed.
• Replenish soap and towels in appropriate receptacles.
• Clean furnishings and horizontal surfaces to remove dust and dirt.
• Communicate with residents, nurses, physicians, department leaders, and staff regarding environmental services requests, infection prevention, and service resolution; provide timely follow‑up.
• Consult with management on best practices and follow the environmental program for housekeeping/cleaning and maintenance tasks.
• Obtain lists of rooms/areas to be cleaned and prospective admissions/discharges to maintain room readiness.
• Clean floors (sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, disinfecting) and ensure safety signs are posted.
• Maintain clean work areas; store equipment, tools, and supplies properly; clean carts and equipment after use.
• Clean carpets using appropriate machines and chemicals; care for tile floors with appropriate machines and chemicals; follow procedures for stripping and waxing floors.
• Monitor and replenish cleaning products; inventory stock; use industrial cleaning equipment and products properly; return unused supplies; dispose of soiled materials and trash in designated areas.
• Support the housekeeping/laundry department and fill vacant positions as needed.
• Perform other duties, responsibilities and activities as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency preferred.
• At least one year of work experience in a commercial establishment with knowledge of laundry/housekeeping procedures.
