About the Role

Performs day-to-day activities of the housekeeping and maintenance department in accordance with current Federal, State, and Local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility. Responsible for total floor care and facility maintenance to ensure a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.

Responsibilities

  • Follows work assignments from supervisor and follows schedule to wash, seal, wax, and buff all floors in the facility.
  • Performs maintenance tasks, including:
    • Checking and replacing light bulbs.
    • Cleaning lint from dryers, vents, and registers in resident rooms and other areas.
    • Keeping grounds cleared of debris.
    • Sweeping front entrance and patio areas, cleaning ashtrays, and ensuring outside furniture is clean and usable.
    • Hosing out garbage cans.
    • Washing windows and screens outside the building as assigned.
    • Assisting with lubricating potty chairs, wheelchairs, shower chairs, wheeled Geri chairs, drug carts, etc.
  • Performs general housekeeping and cleaning duties in various areas to maintain the center in a sanitary, safe, attractive, and orderly condition, including:
    • Cleaning offices, restrooms (handicap and visitor), activity rooms, kitchen restrooms, service entrances, therapy rooms, entrances, exits, utility areas, closets, lounges, lobbies, and halls.
    • Performing emergency housekeeping tasks.
    • Cleaning, dusting, washing, and disinfecting fixtures, floors, walls, doors, and ceilings.
    • Scouring and polishing water fountains, sinks, mirrors, glass panels, brass, and furnishings.
    • Changing slipcovers, scarves, and doilies when soiled and arranging furniture and equipment.
    • Cleaning ledges, shelves, vents, windows, and window sills.
    • Removing and re-hanging curtains, drapes, and dividers for cleaning.
    • Replenishing soap and towels in appropriate receptacles.
  • Cleans furnishings and horizontal surfaces to remove dust and dirt.
  • Works with residents, nurses, physicians, department leaders, and other staff regarding environmental services requests, infection prevention, and service resolution opportunities.
  • Provides timely follow-up for information to requesting departments and consults with management on best practices.
  • Performs housekeeping and maintenance tasks as defined in the environmental program, including:
    • Obtaining lists of rooms and areas to be cleaned immediately and prospective admissions/discharges to maintain room readiness.
    • Cleaning floors (sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, disinfecting).
    • Ensuring caution/safety signs are properly set up before performing duties.
    • Keeping work areas clean and storing equipment, tools, and supplies properly.
  • Cleans carpets and performs floor care on tile floors using appropriate machines and chemicals.
  • Follows procedures for stripping and waxing floors.
  • Monitors and replenishes cleaning products, inventories stock, and ensures adequate supplies.
  • Uses industrial cleaning equipment and products properly and without waste.
  • Returns unused supplies to proper areas and disposes of soiled materials and trash in designated areas.
  • Cleans carts and equipment.
  • Supports the housekeeping/laundry department and fills vacant positions to meet center needs.
