Floor Care Technician

Position Purpose
The Floor Care Technician plays a key role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of floors and surfaces throughout our facilities. This position is responsible for performing specialized floor care and light janitorial duties, including sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and carpet cleaning. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, dependable, and committed to upholding high standards of cleanliness in a healthcare environment.
Principal Responsibilities
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in assigned areas.
- Assist with stripping, waxing, polishing, and buffing floor surfaces.
- Shampoo and extract carpets using appropriate equipment and chemicals.
- Perform light cleaning of windows, walls, and baseboards as needed.
- Move and replace furniture before and after floor care duties.
- Properly measure, mix, and label cleaning chemicals following manufacturer and safety guidelines.
- Operate and maintain chemical dispensing units and other floor care equipment (e.g., buffers, extractors).
- Clean, maintain, and properly store all tools, equipment, and PPE.
- Monitor and report any floor damage or maintenance needs.
- Replenish supplies and notify supervisor when inventory is low.
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and signage during floor work.
- Maintain cleanliness of common areas, hallways, lobbies, offices, and other designated areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience in janitorial, specifically floor care work.
- Familiarity with floor care equipment and chemicals.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
- Availability to work flexible shifts, including evenings or weekends, if needed.
Preferred
- Experience in a healthcare, commercial, or institutional setting.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Certification in floor care or custodial training is a plus.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and noise.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
