About the role

The Universal Banker serves as a full-service, single point of contact in the branch for SouthState customers’ financial needs. The position operates in the dual capacity of a Teller and Financial Service Representative (FSR), providing exceptional customer service in both transactional and account management. The Universal Banker seeks to attract, expand, and retain customer relationships and is responsible for contributing to the financial growth of the bank.

Floating Universal Bankers may be required to travel to different offices in an area to accommodate staffing needs and may assume additional responsibilities such as vault duties or back-up vault duties.

Responsibilities

  • Serve customers quickly, accurately, efficiently, and confidentially according to SouthState Bank Service Standards.
  • Understand and communicate the products and services offered by the Bank, including features, benefits, rules, regulations, and pricing.
  • Identify customer needs and expectations; expand relationships by making referrals as outlined in position goals.
  • Maintain a neat and professional personal appearance in accordance with bank policy.
  • Ensure compliance with all banking regulations, including Regulation CC and the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Develop a strong understanding of customer-facing technology to discuss and enroll customers in self-service options.

Teller Duties

  • Process transactions for savings, checking, and loan accounts.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area; may assist in guiding and training new tellers.
  • Provide customers access to safe deposit boxes as needed.
  • Cash checks and process savings withdrawals within assigned limits and in accordance with prescribed procedures.
  • Sell certified checks.
  • Balance transactions daily; may service/balance ATMs.
  • Utilize the branch capture system.
  • Follow policies and procedures to minimize operational errors and maintain proper workflow.
  • Adhere to the branch’s security and audit procedures; understand the function and operation of security devices.

Financial Service Representative (FSR) Duties

  • Open new deposit accounts and handle services such as stop payments, wire transfers, and other maintenance functions within assigned limits.
  • Explain policies and procedures to customers, considering their unfamiliarity with banking processes.
  • Resolve customer problems and complaints with courtesy and discretion; escalate complex issues as needed.
  • View problems and complaints as opportunities to satisfy customers and promote additional services.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of financial services offered by the bank.
  • Show sincere appreciation for each customer’s time and business; provide business cards as appropriate.
  • Ensure branch records, reports, and correspondence related to customer development are accurate, timely, and properly distributed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Cash handling, sales, and customer service experience; previous banking experience preferred.
  • Good interpersonal and computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • For Floating Universal Bankers: One year of teller or cash-handling experience and six months of customer relationship building or sales experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Teller II and basic FSR job functions.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, reports, and cash denominations.
  • Ability to identify customers.

Work Environment

This position is primarily located in an open lobby area with an individual workstation inside a cooled and heated facility. Access to a break room or restroom is available during breaks. Travel may be required for meetings or training as needed.

Pay

In accordance with Colorado law, the pay range for this position is anticipated to be between $38,518.00 and $57,778.00. Actual offers will be determined based on the applicant’s skills, experience, and education.
