Job Summary
This role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of department machinery to produce high-quality products while meeting production deadlines. In addition to equipment operation, this position supports team members through training, assists with developing SOPs and production documentation, and performs inventory data entry.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation (40%): Operate department machinery (Mixing, Extruding, Grinding) with minimal supervision
Support production during breaks, shift changes, and absences
Assist with grinder cleanouts and operate the small grinder as needed - Quality & Compliance (20%): Follow all quality standards and guidelines
Monitor product quality throughout production
Partner with supervisors and team to ensure adherence to Standard Work and 6S practices - Material Handling (20%): Operate a forklift to move raw materials and finished goods
Follow all safety protocols related to powered industrial equipment - Work Area & Equipment Maintenance (10%): Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Ensure tools and equipment are properly stored
Report maintenance issues promptly - Administrative & Cross-Training (10%): Enter and review production data and work orders in the system
Provide support in other functional areas as needed
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience (4 years manufacturing/machine operation)
- Minimum 12 months of manufacturing or machine operation experience
- Minimum 12 months forklift experience
- Basic computer and data entry skills (ERP experience preferred)
- Ability to read measurements and perform basic math
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Strong commitment to safety
- Ability to work overtime as needed
Work Environment
This role operates in a manufacturing environment with exposure to: Dust, noise, temperature changes, and industrial equipment
High-pressure systems and potentially hazardous materials
Required PPE including safety glasses, steel-toe/composite boots, and hearing protection
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive motion
- Ability to lift up to 55 lbs
- Manual dexterity to operate tools and equipment
- Ability to work at heights and wear required PPE (including masks)
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow safety procedures
