About the Role
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, Clinical Manager, or designee, this position assists in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating activities in the Nursing Station by performing clerical and technical duties while maintaining the physical environment. Supports licensed staff by providing direct and indirect patient care as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served to facilitate the identification and reporting of changes in patient condition or behavior.
- Assist with patient care and room preparation as directed by nursing staff or designee to address patient needs and safety.
- Display Service Excellence by practicing the mission, vision, and values of the organization to promote patient satisfaction.
- Order and restock patient care supplies as needed to provide adequate stock for daily patient care; keep the nurses' station supplied and organized; prepare charts; maintain office supplies; and stock blank forms.
- Comply with organizational policies, procedures, and practices to ensure quality job performance and hospital compliance.
- Answer telephones, transfer calls to appropriate departments, take messages, and communicate messages to the appropriate person using proper telephone etiquette.
- Assist with arranging patient transport if needed.
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
- Current BLS CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Experience in a healthcare, patient care setting, or certified STNA, or current student enrolled in a healthcare major.
- Positive, service-oriented communication skills.
- Strong collaboration and organizational skills.
- Proficient in using technology, including strong typing and computer skills.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served, including understanding principles of growth and development over the lifespan.
- Ability to assess data reflective of patient status and interpret information to identify patient needs relative to age-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with medical terminology or medical training.
- Experience as a secretary, receptionist, registration, and/or in customer service.
Physical Demands
- Full range of body motion with intermittent activities in walking, sitting, lifting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and standing.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more, including lifting work above the shoulder.
- Corrected vision and hearing within the normal range.
- Excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks.
- Classified as "at risk" for possible occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.).
- Works in a fast-paced environment classified as "high risk" where exposure to unpredictable, volatile situations and patient aggression may occur.
