About the Role
The LPN/Medical Assistant, under the supervision of the Practice Manager/Director, assists in delivering healthcare and patient care management, providing support for WMMC clinics as needed.
Responsibilities
- Perform selected nursing and administrative duties, assisting physicians as required.
- Prepare patients for examination and treatment by escorting them from the waiting room to the exam room, taking histories, and recording vital signs.
- Prepare, clean, and maintain exam and treatment rooms.
- Administer injections, perform EKGs, assist with examinations, and provide other patient care services as directed.
- Administer medications per provider orders and phone in pharmacy orders as directed.
- Maintain sample medication supply, log all sample medications, and purge expired medications.
- Prepare and maintain clinical supplies and equipment.
- Assist with answering telephones, providing information as requested, and screening calls to the physician.
- Assist with scheduling tests and treatments.
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
- Assist patients in setting goals for self-management, teaching self-management tasks, and reporting abnormal findings to the provider.
- Collaborate with patients, providers, and other Care Team members to assess patient progress toward health care goals.
- Assess barriers when patients have not met treatment goals, are not following the treatment plan, or have missed appointments.
- Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
- Ensure adherence to all laws and regulations related to employment, OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA, and other federal, state, and WMMC compliance policies.
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Treat members of the Care Team, visitors, and patients with dignity and respect.
- Greet patients and visitors courteously and professionally.
- Perform CLIA-waived tests proficiently.
- Receive and handle phone calls as directed by the physician.
- Ensure rooms are properly cleaned and stocked.
- Handle and store all sample medications properly.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- LPN: Graduate from an accredited school with a current state license.
- Medical Assistant: Current certification as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) required or obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Current AHA or Red Cross BLS certification required or obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work within established policies, procedures, and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Must be able to sit and stand intermittently for 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including telephone and computer keyboard.
- Continuously works under pressure to maintain near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
- Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits, and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Occasionally reaches above shoulder level and regularly lifts and/or carries up to 40 lbs.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
