Flight Test Mechanic
Overview
Joby is seeking a skilled Flight Test Aircraft Maintenance professional with experimental and R&D aircraft experience to support new and novel aircraft flight test programs. In this role, you will directly contribute to the hands-on execution of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and ground operations to ensure the airworthiness and safety of our experimental fleet.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on experimental flight test aircraft strictly adhering to company procedures, engineering drawings, and maintenance manuals
- Conduct detailed pre-flight, post-flight, and periodic aircraft inspections to ensure safety and flight readiness
- Remove and replace advanced airframe, powerplant, and high-voltage electrical components
- Perform aircraft launch and recovery operations, including ground handling, towing, and serve as a ground observer
- Participate actively in Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) in accordance with company guidelines
- Accurately complete and maintain all required maintenance logs, records, and documentation in accordance with established company and FAA procedures
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and operate critical ground support equipment (GSE)
- Provide feedback and technical insights to engineering teams to help continually develop and refine maintenance manuals and supporting documentation
- Work in a safe manner in strict accordance with established operating procedures, observing all aviation laws and safety regulations
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate
- 5+ years of experience performing hands-on maintenance and inspections on aircraft
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documents
- General working knowledge and proficiency with standard hand tools and precision measuring equipment
- Strong interpersonal and basic computer skills to communicate effectively within a collaborative team environment
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks, handle extended hours when necessary, and adapt to a dynamic flight test schedule
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 50% of the time
- Valid passport with no travel restrictions
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day
- Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands
- Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders
- Must be able to lift/push/pull minimum of 50 pounds
Desired Experience
- With complex logistics and shipping operations
- Experience with hydrogen storage and powerplants or other novel propulsion technologies
- Familiarity with electronic aircraft maintenance management (ERP) systems
- FAA Inspection Authorization (IA)

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
