Flight Test Engineer - SME

Location: Eglin AFB, FL • Full-time • Active Secret clearance required • Travel as needed

About the Role

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Flight Test Engineer – Subject Matter Expert supporting the TMAS2_96TW Contract and the Air Force Division at Eglin AFB, FL.

Requirements

• Active SECRET clearance
• U.S. Citizenship
• Master’s degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace engineering, or related discipline
• Ten or more years of flight test experience
• Substantive expertise in test and evaluation of new or modified weapon systems
• Recognized as an industry leader in the field of flight test engineering

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Operational or Developmental Test organizations
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
• Background in range operations, safety, scheduling, and airspace use
• Knowledge of Eglin-based flight test processes, Developmental Test and Evaluation, Flight Safety Course, Weapons School, or Test Pilot School

Responsibilities

• Develop and plan test strategies, write test plans, and publish test reports
• Write test procedures, test cards, conduct test events, and author test event reports
• Lead test teams of engineers, data scientists, technicians, maintenance, schedulers, pilots, and aircrew
• Manage test schedules for multiple concurrent test lines and aircraft
• Apply understanding of fighter tactics and weapon system capabilities to test planning, execution, and reporting
• Plan and program hardware and software test series and individual test missions
• Interface with weapon system prime contractors and government System Program Office on test objectives, schedules, budgets, and methods
• Coordinate aircraft modification schedules and availability of special test equipment
• Travel to defense contractors’ facilities, out-of-state test sites, and other locations in support of test programs
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing; lead and direct the work of others
