Flight Paramedic
About the Role
Under the direction and supervision of the Base Medical Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing safe, comprehensive care to critically ill and/or injured patients of all ages in the pre-hospital setting and during inter-facility transports. The role involves applying specialized principles and techniques of flight paramedic practice, emergency procedures, and diagnostics.
Responsibilities
- Performs a wide range of specialized functions and complex assessments, diagnoses, therapies, and emergency treatment of patients transported by rotor-wing, fixed-wing, and/or ground.
- Documents accurate and complete information for assessment, treatment, and billing during stabilization and transport.
- Maintains and facilitates effective and timely communication between management, internal and external customers.
- Participates in activities to support Public Relations (PR) and marketing efforts.
- Maintains knowledge base for flight paramedic role through mandatory meetings, chart reviews, equipment reviews, skill labs, clinical rotations, and continuing education sessions.
- Completes all annual recurrent competency requirements.
- Clinically functions under the direction of the program’s Medical Director through medical protocols and online medical guidance.
- Reports clinically to the program’s Manager of Clinical Services and indirectly to the National Director of Clinical Standards.
- Performs within the regulations and scope of practice of the local Department of Health Services.
- May serve as Preceptor, Base Educator, CQI Representative, Government Relations Representative, Membership Representative, Social Media Representative, or in other roles such as managing office supplies, PR/marketing, wellness, or safety.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Active Paramedic Certification in the state(s) employed.
- Minimum of three years (five years preferred) current field experience in a busy 911/pre-hospital service.
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS/PEPP, and PHTLS/ITLS. NRP preferred.
- Instructor certifications preferred.
- FP-C certification within twenty-four months of hire.
- Flight or transport experience preferred.
- Must successfully complete the PHI Health Group education/orientation program.
- Effective human relations skills for interfacing with all levels of personnel and external customers.
- Must meet and maintain clinical personnel weight restriction limit for flight according to policy (body weight below 235 pounds).
- Basic computer skills for email, electronic charting, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
- Ability to communicate verbally, effectively, and clearly in person, by radio, and by phone.
- Must pass pre-placement physical exam including functional capacity exam (strength and flexibility assessment, lift up to 100 pounds) and drug screening.
- Preferred: Candidate lives within a one-hour drive or sixty (60) miles from the base.
Pay
Competitive pay with a sign-on bonus of up to $20,000.
