Job Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Base Medical Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing safe, comprehensive care to critically ill and/or injured patients of all ages. Care is provided in the pre-hospital setting and during inter-facility transports by understanding and applying the specialized principles and techniques of flight paramedic practice, emergency procedures and diagnostics.
Responsibilities
- Performs a wide range of specialized functions and complex assessments, diagnoses, therapies and emergency treatment of patients transported by rotor-wing and/or fixed wing and/or ground.
- Documents/Charts appropriate and accurate information for assessment and treatment during stabilization and transport.
- Documents/Charts accurate and complete billing information of patient transports.
- Maintains and facilitates effective and timely communication between management, internal and external customers.
- Participates in activities to support Public Relations (PR) and marketing efforts.
- Maintains knowledge base for flight nursing role.
- Attends mandatory meetings, chart reviews, equipment reviews, skill labs, clinical rotations, and continuing education sessions related to the care and transport of critically ill and/or injured patients.
- Completes all annual recurrent competency requirements.
- Clinically functions under the direction of the program’s Medical Director through medical protocols and procedures and online medical guidance. For clinical matters, reports directly to the program’s Manager of Clinical Services and indirectly to the National Director of Clinical Standards.
- Responsible for knowledge of and performing within the regulations and scope of practice of the local Department of Health Services.
- This position performs other job duties that include but are not limited to: Preceptor - Base Educator, CQI Representative - Program Peds CQI, Government Relations Representative, Membership Representative (PHI Cares), Social Media Representative, Office supplies and bound tree supplies, PRs/marketing, Wellness, Safety Representative or Safety Chair.
Requirements
- Must have an active Paramedic Certification in the state(s) employed.
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS/PEPP and PHTLS/ITLS. NRP preferred.
- Instructor certifications preferred.
- Maintains all certifications required by policy.
- FP-C within twenty-four months of hire.
- Fight or transport experience preferred.
- Must successfully complete the PHI Health Group education/orientation program.
- Effective human relations skills required for interfacing with all levels of personnel and external customers.
- Must meet and maintain clinical personnel weight restriction limit for flight according to policy.
- Must possess basic computer skills for e-mail, electronic charting, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field preferred.
- Able to communicate verbally, effectively and clearly in person, by radio and by phone.
- Maintain a body weight below 235 pounds.
- Must be able to pass pre-placement physical exam including functional capacity exam (strength and flexibility assessment, lift up to 100 pounds) and drug screening.
- It is preferred that candidate lives within a one-hour drive or sixty (60) miles from the base (whichever is greater) of the candidate's residence.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years (five years preferred) current field experience in a busy 911/pre-hospital service.
- Maintains all certifications required by policy.
- Must successfully complete the PHI Health Group education/orientation program.
- Effective human relations skills required for interfacing with all levels of personnel and external customers.
- Maintain a body weight below 235 pounds.
- Must be able to pass pre-placement physical exam including functional capacity exam (strength and flexibility assessment, lift up to 100 pounds) and drug screening.
- It is preferred that candidate lives within a one-hour drive or sixty (60) miles from the base (whichever is greater) of the candidate's residence.
Skills
