About the role
Our Farm Laborers who work on teams at Kreher’s have a very important role throughout our farms. These opportunities are hands-on, physical jobs at our Clarence and Basom, NY locations. If you enjoy hands-on, physical labor positions which involve the care and well-being of our hens, this is the opportunity for you!
Responsibilities
- Follow Kreher’s pre-established poultry care and poultry house sanitation procedures and guidelines, under direct supervision.
- Learn bird moving activities to include moving chicks/hens in and out of houses, counting and caging chicks/hens, moving carts, etc.
- Learn and participate in other bird procedures such as vaccinating.
- Work with a team to thoroughly clean poultry houses during flock turnover – dry and pressure cleaning building, equipment, cages, feeders, etc. followed by disinfection.
- Learn and follow all biosecurity protocols.
- Learn basic building and equipment maintenance by assisting in fixing cages, water lines, feeders, etc., if/when needed.
- Look for opportunities to eliminate re-work, waste, etc., and inform manager of potential hazards.
- Learn appropriate time required to ensure personal job tasks are completed efficiently.
- Meet or exceed standards in the tasks performed without sacrificing quality or personal safety.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to avoid accidents.
- Follow schedule supplied by manager or team leader of the flex team.
- Continually develop knowledge of established maintenance procedures to ensure efficiency.
- Share and utilize best practices at the farm.
- Maintain two-way communication with Flex Team Leader and team members.
- Act as a team player (support and encourage co-workers).
- Treat co-workers with respect.
- Show flexibility; cross train within department, be willing to move to different areas as needed.
- Comply with Kreher’s Policies and Work Rules, as well as federal and state laws.
- Have a safety first mentality. Look for opportunities to improve safety, prevent accidents, and make the farm a safe place to work.
- May perform other duties as requested.
Requirements
- General knowledge of animal care standards.
- Ability to learn quickly and follow directions.
- Able to function successfully in a team environment.
- Able to work long hours to complete tasks, keeping a dedicated and committed, team-first attitude.
- Must not currently own or hunt birds, or visit anyone that owns birds (pet bird, backyard flock, etc.).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position is mobile in nature requiring moderate to high energy levels and regular physical exertion. There is exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, temperature changes, agricultural noises, smells and hazards usually associated with agricultural facilities.
- Constant physical demands: standing, walking, carrying, pushing, pulling, lifting, using power washing equipment, talking, and hearing.
- Lift or move up to 50 pounds.
