About the Role
The Fleet Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the highest quality of fleet readiness and safety, which is our organization’s number one priority. This position focuses on executing a proactive, best-in-class preventative maintenance program to optimize efficiency, reduce liability, and ensure cost-effective operations. As early adopters of next-generation fleet technologies, our team collaborates directly with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to design, test, and implement cutting-edge advancements. The ideal candidate will possess a proactive mindset and a commitment to maintaining rigorous safety standards.
Performs expert-level preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs to support a diverse fleet of 400+ trucks and 700+ trailers to maximize up-time and safety. This role is based at the Hutchins, TX shop and requires local travel to Ennis and Dallas for road calls and site support. The mechanic serves as a technical lead for the in-house shop, balancing direct repair work with administrative tasks such as parts inventory management and maintenance record-keeping.
Responsibilities
- Diagnoses and performs complex mechanical repairs on International tractors and heavy-duty fleet trucks.
- Executes preventative maintenance inspections and routine servicing for flatbed, van, pneumatic, and tanker trailers.
- Manages the Hutchins shop operations, including organizing tooling and maintaining a safe, efficient work environment.
- Oversees parts inventory management, coordinating with vendors to ensure optimal stock levels for critical repairs.
- Provides mobile service support, including emergency road calls and local travel to company sites in Ennis and Dallas.
- Maintains accurate digital and manual repair records using the company's fleet maintenance software.
- Ensures all equipment and repair activities remain in strict compliance with DOT regulatory standards.
- Supports the Corporate Fleet Maintenance & Asset Manager in identifying equipment replacement needs and disposal requirements.
Requirements
- H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with diesel engines, electronic vehicle systems, and heavy-duty trucks.
- Valid Driver's License required; Class A CDL strongly preferred for tractor-trailer maneuvering and road testing.
- Proven proficiency in maintaining diverse trailer types, including pneumatic, flatbed, and tanker assets.
- Ability to manage parts inventory and shop tooling with external vendor collaboration.
- Working knowledge of ATA VMRS coding and fleet maintenance systems.
- Must possess personal tools and equipment necessary for professional mechanical repair.
