About the role

The Operations Manager manages the operations and personnel for locations with approximately 150 truck units. Direct reports include Operations Supervisors, Technicians-In-Charge, Customer Service Coordinators, Technicians, Service Employees, and/or a Parts Responsible Person. This role ensures business objectives and labor requirements are met through direct involvement and limited delegation, balancing customer needs with financial, operating, quality, safety, and asset targets.

This position may serve as a developmental role to prepare incumbents for the Senior Operations Manager position, offering a clear career path and opportunities for growth based on performance.

Responsibilities

  • Operations Management:
    • Optimize labor at the shop, balancing straight time, overtime, and outside repair.
    • Optimize shift patterns to align qualified technician hours with equipment availability based on customer operating hours.
    • Oversee work analysis, vehicle planning and scheduling, productivity tracking, shift meetings, and repair order review/approval.
    • Execute the Automated Planning System (APS).
  • Labor Management:
    • Manage, train, and develop all assigned personnel.
    • Oversee performance management, including the Technical Training Plan and TOPS prioritization based on breakdown, rework, and running cost trends.
    • Lead recruiting, hiring, onboarding, payroll, and succession planning.
  • Customer Management:
    • Manage customer relationships, issue resolution, satisfaction, retention, and vehicle uptime.
    • Optimize vehicle maintenance cycle time to meet or exceed "Delivered in Time Promised" objectives.
    • Execute the Customer Communication Protocol and collaborate with the Sales Team on the Customer Care Plan.
    • Conduct customer visits and annual reviews as required.
    • Ensure customer retention and Maintenance CSI through optimal execution of the Maintenance Promise.
  • Asset Management:
    • Maintain shop appearance and 6S standards.
    • Execute Asset Management initiatives and recommend tooling/equipment needs.
    • Oversee vehicle specifications, in-service/out-service processes, and input during business unit asset reviews.
    • Ensure all vehicles meet specifications in SAM.
    • Manage parts inventory, policies, and procedures.
    • Collaborate with Rental on PM scheduling, asset utilization, subs, VMI, and wash logs.
  • Quality Management:
    • Perform quality inspections of PMs and repairs, including In Process Reviews for non-PM work.
    • Lead breakdown root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
    • Maintain visibility over shop floor activities to ensure proper root cause diagnosis and parts yield optimization.
    • Ensure compliance with all Mandatory Compliance items at the shop level.
    • Develop and implement Quality Assurance Audit Corrective Action plans and Continuous Improvement programs.
    • Maintain documentation to meet local, state, federal, and customer requirements.
    • Ensure a safe workplace and compliance with Safety, State, and EPA regulations.
  • Financial Management:
    • Ensure the shop meets Net Maintenance Cost per Unit objectives without sacrificing quality, safety, or customer satisfaction.
    • Implement cost control measures to meet financial objectives on the maintenance operations budget and location P&L.
    • Execute Maintenance Initiatives to attain or exceed financial targets.
    • Optimize net maintenance cost per unit and collaborate with vendor sourcing to identify preferred vendors.
    • Ensure accuracy of third-party invoices and quality of outsourced work.
    • Oversee payroll, purchase order approval, invoice reconciliation, fuel reconciliation, and liquid inventories (fuel, DEF, oil).
    • Manage the customer bill-back process, including identification, review, and approval of billable opportunities.
    • Maximize Warranty recovery and ensure data integrity in the shop management system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience in an operations environment or demonstrated success in a Ryder role.
  • 0 to 1 year of supervisory experience required.
  • Travel: 1-10%.
  • Safety Sensitive: Non-Regulated Tech.
  • DOT Regulated: No.

Skills

  • Ability to professionally represent Ryder and interact with customer management.
  • Understanding of labor, financial, operating, quality, safety, and asset processes and metrics.
  • Strong sense of personal accountability and a proven track record of achieving results.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Competency in basic computer skills and Microsoft Office environment.
  • Preferred: Experience with reporting systems for data analysis, intermediate Microsoft Word/Excel, Fleet Management Software, and maintenance/technical experience in a shop environment.

Pay

Salaried position with a pay range of $83,000 (minimum and maximum).
