Fleet Equipment Mechanic

About the role

Moss’ Fleet Equipment Mechanic ensures all equipment and vehicles are in job-ready condition. The role involves troubleshooting issues using diagnostic tools, performing economical repairs safely and promptly, and handling preventative maintenance and on-demand job site repairs as scheduled by the Solar Equipment Coordinator or Fleet Equipment Manager. The Mechanic coordinates with the Asset Management Team, job sites, and vendors to maintain equipment safety and operability.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular routine preventative maintenance service on construction equipment.
• Respond to service call requests immediately and perform repairs or maintenance as coordinated with the Equipment Coordinator or Equipment Manager.
• Communicate and troubleshoot service issues with the Equipment Coordinator or Equipment Manager and collaborate with outsourced service vendors.
• Follow standard routine review of services performed; complete work orders and use maintenance software to confirm equipment is safe, operable, and job-site ready.
• Demonstrate welding and burning ability.
• Complete electronic work orders and submit daily.
• Work safely to protect themselves, co-workers, equipment, and surrounding property per Moss Safety Guidelines and Policy.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum Associate’s Degree in a Heavy Equipment Program.
• Minimum 5 years of construction industry experience.
• Maintain DOT physical for driving a commercial service truck; CDL preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of equipment hydraulic systems.
• Ability to work on hydraulic and air braking systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues.
• Basic understanding and diagnostic ability of diesel engines.
• Hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs.
• Certifications or specific training in:
  • Safety
  • Brakes (Hydraulic and Air)
  • Engine (Gas and Diesel)
  • Transmissions
  • Troubleshooting
  • Suspension Systems
• Basic computer skills (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Ability to travel to job sites (FL, GA, and/or AR) with overnight stays depending on current residency.
• Ability to work in outside conditions.
• Self-starter able to work independently with little to no supervision.
• Ability to prioritize workload and daily activities.

Classification: Full-time, exempt, salaried. Reports to: Equipment Manager.
