Flagger

C.J. Hughes Construction Co., Inc. is seeking a reliable, safety‑conscious individual to join the Flagging Department as a Flagging and Traffic Control Technician. The role involves assisting with traffic control and flagging duties to ensure safe and efficient movement of vehicles around construction sites, working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Use hand signals and direction signs to safely direct traffic around construction zones.
• Coordinate with other flaggers using two‑way radios to manage alternating traffic flows.
• Inform the construction crew of any traffic issues that may impact safety.
• Place appropriate warning and detour signs around construction sites.
• Set up and remove barricades, cones, and other barriers to mark restricted areas.
• Perform prolonged lifting (up to 50 lb), standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, and crouching.
• Maintain heightened awareness in the “red zone” of heavy equipment.
• Adapt to flexible schedules and locations, with occasional overnight travel on short notice.
• Provide reliable transportation to travel to different job sites.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license.
• Clean background and motor vehicle record.
• Willingness to travel to each job location as needed.
• Must be 18 years old or older.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of flagging experience.
• ATSSA certification (preferred).
• Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members and the public.

Schedule

Standard shifts include 8‑ and 10‑hour shifts, with possible overtime.

Compensation

Hourly pay starting at $18.33 per hour.
