Responsibilities

  • Provide a fun, safe, and positive experience for all participants.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience teaching children/teens Flag Football in a structured setting.
  • Knowledge of youth development stages.
  • Content expert in designated sports activity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members of all ages.
  • Current First Aid or CPR certifications.
  • Must attend YMCA Coaching 101 Training within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Must receive the CDC HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports certificate within thirty (30) days of employment.

Essential Functions

  • Work with the Supervisor to develop program objectives and goals for each session.
  • Create age‑appropriate, progressive written lesson plans as needed.
  • Provide supervision of participants in line with YMCA program standards and guidelines (e.g., ratio, attendance).
  • Modify lesson plans and instructions to meet participant needs.
  • Emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • Teach rules, fundamentals, and enhance basic skills.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians about child/teen progress and future session registration.
  • Inform parents/guardians of additional YMCA opportunities.
  • Ensure all equipment is age‑appropriate, safe, and in proper working condition, conducting monthly safety checks.
  • Collaborate with the Supervisor on program promotion and recruitment efforts.
  • Provide direction to volunteers or Sports Assistants when applicable.
  • Understand branch emergency procedures and act appropriately in emergencies.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the program space during activities.
  • Report incidents to the Manager on Duty (MOD) as required.
  • Participate in designated meetings, training sessions, and special events.
