The Legends Rec-Plex, opened in 2021, is a 24-hour city-owned and operated facility offering a budget-conscious option for individuals and families. Amenities include a fitness center, cardio room, banquet center, basketball courts, volleyball courts, batting cages, a walking track, an indoor turf area, and a game room.
About the Role
Flag Football and Soccer Referees enforce rules, maintain standards of play, and ensure a fair, safe, and enjoyable experience for all participants during Parks & Recreation sporting events.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Prior experience playing or officiating soccer or football is highly preferred.
- 1–2 years of officiating experience at the Parks & Recreation or High School level preferred.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening and be subject to periodic drug testing as required by law.
- Must be at least 16 years old and willing to attend all required training sessions.
- Must be available to work evening hours, Monday through Thursday, starting September 2nd.
- Must be available for pre-season training.
- Must have no felony convictions.
Skills
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the rules and regulations for soccer and/or flag football.
- Excellent decision-making and conflict-resolution skills.
- Effective verbal communication with participants, coaches, and staff.
- Ability to remain professional, calm, and impartial in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to manage time effectively and keep accurate game timing.
- Physical ability to move quickly and stay active throughout the duration of games.
Responsibilities
- Study and understand game rules that apply to a variety of sports.
- Judge gameplay during sporting events to award points and decide results.
- Observe gameplay closely, make calls based on the application of game rules, and assess any required penalties according to established regulations.
- Ensure teams follow all safety regulations.
- Monitor times related to the event such as start and stop times, elapsed times, or race times; ensure time requirements are followed precisely and start or stop gameplay as needed.
- Consult with other referees and/or playback screens, when available, to make a final call on a contested play.
- Resolve complaints or rule infraction claims from participants.
- Examine and verify the credentials of sporting event participants.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Regular exposure to outdoor elements including varying weather conditions.
- High exposure to noise, dust, and occasional rowdy crowds.
- Must be able to travel between field locations with ease.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to remain on feet and move throughout fields for extended periods.
- May be required to lift up to 15 pounds.
- Seasonal employment with irregular hours, including evenings and occasional weekends or holidays.
