The Fixed Asset Analyst, III plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the Company's fixed asset records and supporting various accounting, reporting, and compliance activities. Key responsibilities include:
- Maintain fixed asset records including additions, transfers, retirements, and disposals.
- Calculate and review monthly depreciation.
- Prepare fixed asset journal entries.
- Perform monthly fixed asset and accumulated depreciation reconciliations.
- Ensure accurate classification of capital versus operating expenditures.
- CIP review and monitoring, including determining when assets should be placed into service.
- Support CIP account cleanup activities and track project costs.
- Coordinate capitalization of completed projects and assist with property tax support.
Additionally, this role supports month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities, prepares account reconciliations and supporting schedules, and assists with internal and external audit requests. It also involves:
- Serving as a liaison between Accounting, Operations, Engineering, Project Managers, and other business partners.
- Preparing fixed asset roll-forward schedules and analyzing capital spending trends and depreciation activity.
- Supporting management reporting and special projects.
Qualifications include:
- A high school diploma or GED.
- A bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.
- Seven (7) years of experience in fixed asset accounting, project accounting, utility accounting, accounting operations, or construction accounting.
- Proven experience leading large scale, highly complex, multidisciplinary teams and external partners in a complex project environment.
- Demonstrated experience engaging executive-level stakeholders and making decisions with significant operational, financial, and strategic impact.
- Experience serving in a senior leadership role responsible for the delivery of large-scale infrastructure, energy, utility, transportation, or industrial projects.
- Experience supporting SOX compliance.
- Utility industry experience preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
- Knowledge of fixed asset accounting, depreciation, capitalization, and Construction in Progress (CIP) accounting.
- Knowledge of GAAP, SOX controls, and accounting policies related to capital assets.
- Skills in account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close activities.
- Ability to analyze fixed asset transactions, depreciation activity, and capital spending trends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting systems, including fixed asset management applications.
- Ability to maintain accurate fixed asset records and ensure data integrity across systems.
- Ability to identify, investigate, and resolve accounting and inventory discrepancies.
- Ability to support audits, regulatory reporting, property tax filings, and compliance requirements.
