Fitter - Haslet
About the Role
Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, the Fitter position is responsible for fitting and joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other weldable material. For large or specialized projects, fitters lay out and assemble subunits or units of materials which are then welded into position by welders. The role ensures products are fitted to job specifications and outlined requirements, consistent with production of quality UT-passable welds. Fitters specialize in fitting transmission power poles, substation A-Frames, high mast poles, highway sign poles, and other tubular structures, with specific experience in reading blueprints.
Responsibilities
- Perform fitting, joining, fabricating, and repairing of metal and other weldable materials.
- Set up work using jigs, fixtures, or hand layouts to fabricate parts and rework finished products.
- Fabricate multi-component parts.
- Cross-train and perform additional job tasks beyond the primary assigned position.
- Use hoists, hand power tools, slings, grinders, cutting torches, and other hand tools as needed.
- Maintain equipment functionality and report needed repairs to management or maintenance.
- Operate equipment safely and adhere to appropriate safety habits.
- Perform other tasks as required.
Performance Measures: Pass a fitter test, follow all company programs and policies, maintain good housekeeping, and demonstrate teamwork.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED, plus a minimum of 5 years of fitter experience or related field (equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable).
- Overhead and Jib Crane experience.
- Knowledge of welding symbols and diagrams.
- Thorough knowledge of welding equipment, including torches and torch tips.
- Ability to read blueprints and interpret welding symbols.
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures and maintain consistent attendance.
- Flexibility to work 1st or 2nd shift and overtime as needed.
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and adaptability in a changing environment.
- Reliance on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Preferred experience in pole work.
- Successfully pass a fitter test, background check (including criminal history), drug screen, physical, audiogram, and vision test.
