About the Role
To provide Members as well as guests with a positive and enjoyable workout experience that surpasses any other. The Fitness Service Agent will be friendly, helpful, and attentive to those working out in the fitness area. They will provide members with any needed service, personalize it, and go above and beyond to consistently exceed the customers’ needs. Knowledge and interest in Fitness are essential. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Meet and greet members and guests in a timely fashion with our standard greeting.
- Answer phones with an upbeat tone using our standard greeting.
- Provide timely and professional service while offering towels, water, newspapers, and magazines to members, as well as being observant to someone looking around in need of assistance.
- Provide members what they want in an acceptable amount of time while personalizing the service and going above and beyond to exceed expectations.
- Basic computer knowledge to ring up merchandise sales (bars, drinks).
- Spot cleaning of equipment to ensure a great first impression when members arrive at machines, including regularly cleaning mirrors, benches, bars, cardio equipment, headsets, etc.
- Maintain a safe, neat workout environment by re-racking weights, straightening and re-aligning equipment, re-wrapping cords, hanging handles and ropes, re-racking balls, and other fitness equipment.
- Assist members with adjusting workout equipment settings.
- Show members the proper technique for using cardiovascular and weight machines.
- Provide supervisors with timely and appropriate information needed for flyers, sign-up sheets, etc.
- Keep supervisors informed of any repairs needed for the facility or equipment.
- Write up equipment in need of repair or service and inform the engineering staff of any structural repairs.
- Assist with the arrival of new equipment, mats, furniture, and delivering daily purchases to the department, often including lifting heavy equipment or moving supplies.
- Other duties or tasks as assigned by supervisors related to the Fitness Department or The Houstonian Campus.
Requirements
- Attending college for a degree in physical fitness, kinesiology, or related field preferred or equivalent work experience.
- Energetic, enthusiastic, observant, attentive, and motivated.
- Personal interest in health, fitness, athletics, working out, nutrition, or related field.
- Professional appearance.
- Must be able to bend, push, pull, and lift 30 pounds on a regular basis.
- Must be able to stand for long periods at a time.
- Proactive/self-motivated, seeking out tasks during “down times” and ways to improve the fitness facility and services.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Positive attitude.
- Basic knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology.
- Basic knowledge of machine weights, free weights, and cardiovascular equipment.
- Continuous improvement mindset, thinking of new ideas, programs, and better ways of doing things.
- Ensuring consistency of service in all areas of the Fitness Department.
- Maintaining working knowledge of basic concepts, trends, and current research on nutrition and exercise.
- Finding new innovative ways to increase revenue without losing high levels of customer service.
- Conversational English language skills.
- CPR and First Aid certified.
Physical Job Requirements
- Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift:
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift, push, and pull 30+ pounds to clean under weights and equipment. Required to stand for long periods of time.
- Hearing / Speech: Must be able to effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
- Vision: Must be able to accurately read instructions, reports, and log sheets.
- Literacy: Must be able to analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate content of reports.
- Chemicals/Agents: Must be able to work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes, and regulatory requirements.
Schedule
Scheduled days and hours vary based on departmental needs. Must be able to work evenings or weekends occasionally.
