About the role
This position involves leading energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes at the YMCA, supporting members' health and well-being through interaction and maintaining a positive environment.
Responsibilities
- Leads group classes as directed by the supervisor, adhering to the scheduled format and description.
- Engages with program participants and members, providing support and answering questions to help them achieve their health and well-being goals.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of wellness trends and provides relevant information and support.
- Observes and adjusts teaching methods to accommodate different participant abilities, physical conditions, and cultural backgrounds.
- Encourages and celebrates achievements of members and program participants.
- Adheres to YMCA policies and procedures and responds appropriately to emergency situations.
- Keeps accurate records of class attendance.
- Contact supervisor with any equipment issues.
- Selects music that is appropriate and aligns with the YMCA's mission as a community and family-based organization.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Current required group fitness certification from a nationally recognized organization such as YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise, AFAA, ACE, IFTA, NETA, and/or AAAI/ISMA.
- Minimum one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.
- Ability to teach two or more class formats desired.
- Certifications subject to annual audit.
