Job Summary
The Fitness Instructor is responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly fitness center, and will conduct him or herself in a positive and professional manner, resulting in friendly, convenient and courteous customer service. The Fitness Instructor is committed to providing excellence in service for all members, clients, volunteers and fellow employees.
Program/Department Responsibilities
- Focused Fitness Orientations - Performs all orientations safely, efficiently, and professionally following branch guidelines and standards. Prescribes a full exercise program that is safe, effective, and personalized for each member. Adjusts orientation to accommodate the needs of the member. Promotes all organization programs and services with a goal to integrate members into as many offerings as possible.
- Member Service - Be visible, available, approachable, and identifiable for all members with questions, even when busy performing other duties. Observe exercise tolerance and safety of all equipment exercisers, and respectfully advise any member who may need help. Address the member population with ease and enjoyment. Be amiable and professional at all times. Record the names, goals, and exercise prescription of members on a regular basis. Monitor heart rates, blood pressure, and/or perceived exertion of participants. Perform follow up calls of previous participants.
- Miscellaneous Duties - Maintain all pertinent certifications and supply copies of certifications when renewed. Complete other projects as necessary, without always being asked (copy forms, file forms, bulletin boards, etc), and in a timely manner. Keep areas stocked with appropriate forms, articles, handouts, etc. Follow all opening and closing procedures as outlined during training.
Requirements
- A degree in Fitness, Health or related field is desirable.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Current CPR and AED certification.
- Experience in a fitness center setting with one-on-one and group consultations helpful.
- Outstanding organizational skills, member service skills, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
- Professional appearance & demeanor at all times.
- Initiative to create new programs, projects, &/or procedures.
- Punctual, prepared & responsible.
- Keeps up with industry changes, willing to increase knowledge in field.
- Ability to highlight, promote, and participate in other programs offered at the branch.
- Must be able to walk, stand and move around during the work day.
