About the role
The Fitness Instructor leads engaging, results-oriented fitness classes for Invited members. This role fosters a supportive environment where members feel motivated to achieve their fitness goals. Reporting directly to the Fitness Manager or Director, the Fitness Instructor ensures the safety and effectiveness of each class.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a service-oriented environment within the group exercise classroom.
- Provide personal recognition and attentive guidance to each member.
- Connect with members regularly and promote fitness activities.
- Create personalized service for members, including towel and water service.
- Promote the club’s amenities, programs, and values.
- Design and update class curriculums using current fitness trends.
- Regularly update choreography and music playlists.
- Attend continuing education opportunities.
- Complete all class administrative work as required.
- Maintain the classroom equipment in good working condition and restock supplies as needed.
- Perform close business functions following guidelines and procedures.
- Ensure daily assignments are completed to uphold Club standards.
- Inspire confidence in the group exercise area, serving as a fitness role model.
- Support colleagues and adapt to additional tasks as directed.
- Follow company, club, and departmental standards, policies, procedures, manuals, and instructions.
- Maintain safe working habits and exhibit good conduct.
- Show initiative for personal and professional growth, including maintaining relevant certifications.
- Manage time efficiently to balance multiple tasks and responsibilities.
- Proactively address issues by utilizing available resources.
- Communicate clearly and professionally, using proper grammar.
- Remain calm and focused under pressure, successfully coordinating multiple tasks.
- Pay close attention to details to ensure accuracy and quality in all tasks.
- Attend daily line-ups and participate as requested.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience as a group fitness trainer.
- Certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED within the last 6 months.
- Certified group exercise instructor with AFAA, ISSA, NETA, or ACE.
- (Preferred) College degree in health, fitness, exercise science, or a related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to assess individual fitness levels and develop tailored exercise programs.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and driving.
- Occasional exposure to temperature changes, dust, fumes, or gases.
- Squatting, kneeling, reaching, grasping, twisting, and bending.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 lbs. on occasion.
- Talking, hearing, and seeing.
