FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
About the Role
Instruct fitness courses such as aerobics, yoga, spinning, and kickboxing offered to the general student population in student athletic centers during the academic year. These classes are separate from those offered through the Physical Education Department for course credit and are scheduled based on interest, with each class lasting 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Responsibilities
- Teach correct fitness methods depending on the class offered.
- Plan classes around the skill levels of the participants.
- Ensure the classroom and equipment are in working order; notify the Center Director if maintenance is needed or equipment requires ordering.
- Lead fitness classes in exercises and/or instruct personal training clients.
- Monitor the well-being of all participants and encourage them to continue with exercises and make healthy choices.
- Enforce all fitness facility policies, rules, and regulations.
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
- Maintain personal fitness level through regular exercise.
- Complete records and reports as needed.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.
Requirements
- American Red Cross CPR/AED certification.
- Group exercise certification from a credible organization, Personal Training certification from a credible organization, or a Physical Education degree.
Pay
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $23.26 to USD $36.73. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and market considerations are considered when extending an offer.
