Requirements
- Instruct members about safe and effective exercise techniques using exercise equipment that includes but is not limited to weight equipment, cardio machines and free weights.
- Answer questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living.
- Motivate and assist members and participants with their wellness and fitness programs.
- Build effective and authentic relationships with members; help members connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Maintain working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
- Absorb participants and members activities; enforce safety regulations and positively explain and interpret all YMCA safety policies.
- Walk through and monitor the Fitness Center periodically.
- Report any equipment problems to the Director and maintain the Fitness Center’s cleanliness.
- Complete Fitness Floor checklist (cleaning and maintaining all equipment in Fitness Center) in its entirety.
- Complete opening and closing checklist and sign every shift (when applicable).
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures; respond to emergency situations.
- Maintain required certificates.
- Attend mandatory meetings and trainings.
- Demonstrate and model the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
- Exhibit personal and professional behavior in a manner consistent with the best interest of the Association, so as not to bring discredit to the Association.
- Perform other job-related duties as may be periodically assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma, Associate/Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred or equivalent experience.
- CPR, First Aid and AED Certifications or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Working knowledge of body mechanics and physical fitness principles.
- Certification in areas of expertise.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with members and staff.
