Fitness Director

About the role

The Fitness Director oversees the planning, development, supervision, and administration of all fitness and wellness programming at the Tri County YMCA branch. This position also involves staffing and ensuring the quality of local corporate wellness fitness classes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement innovative curriculum and activities
• Supervise, develop, coach, and train staff to ensure participant development in a fun, healthy, and safe environment
• Ensure program outcomes are consistently achieved
• Administer all aspects of youth, adult, corporate, and senior fitness & wellness programs, including group exercise classes, personal training, and fitness center programming
• Recruit and train fitness & wellness staff, and plan continuous training and development programs for staff to ensure high quality job performance
• Collaborate with the branch Membership Director to align fitness initiatives with membership goals, retention, and satisfaction
• Work collaboratively with the Association Healthy Living Director to ensure adequate staffing and quality of local offsite fitness classes
• Demonstrate and lead exercise classes, coach and assist with exercise activities/classes, and conduct wellness orientations
• Keep accurate records of all fitness staff certifications
• Adhere to all YMCA of Greater Waukesha County department policies and procedures related to safety, rules, and other regulations
• Model a high degree of professionalism as a supportive and creative contributor to the branch leadership staff team
• Show strong fiscal stewardship through the development and monitoring of the approved annual budget with recommended adjustments
• Participate and recruit staff, members, vendors, and program participants in financial development efforts such as the Annual Community Support Campaign

Qualifications

• Must have a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent of education, certifications, and experience with a minimum of 2 years of successful group exercise program development and fitness center experience that includes staff management
• A personal training certification or successful development of program is preferred
• Candidate should have a positive history of leadership in the areas of staff, volunteer, and program development, fiscal budgeting and management, and operational procedures
• Good written and verbal communication skills are required
• The ability to motivate a diverse population that includes all fitness levels is necessary
