Job Summary/Scope

Congratulations! You've landed a part-time Fitness Class Instructor position at the REC Center within the Parks, Recreation & Civic Facilities Department. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct various adult and youth fitness classes.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Counsels participants on proper techniques.
  • Ensures all safety precautions are being used.
  • Prepares fitness areas for proper set up before classes.

Other Duties And Responsibilities

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Examples of professional conduct include, but are not limited to, being communicative, informative, fair, honest and respectful.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Skills and knowledge in proper instruction and conducting assigned fitness class.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED training certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association or an equivalent nationally recognized course in First Aid/CPR/AED.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing to a wide variety of age groups.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • One or more years’ experience required or any combination of education and work experience to provide the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities.

Material and Equipment

  • Uses a variety of exercise equipment in connection to fitness classes.
  • May require use of personal vehicle for some overnight or day travel.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Majority of work is performed in an indoor setting with a controlled environment.
  • Physical activity includes prolonged standing, bending, stooping, lifting, walking and uses arms, legs and hands frequently.
  • Must have the ability to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds and assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.

Education

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • All applicants must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment.
