Fitness and Wellness Coordinator
Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking a Fitness and Wellness Coordinator to join our team in Providence, Rhode Island. As a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program includes 38 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 NCAA Division I athletes.
About the role
This position oversees the daily administration, staffing, and programming of the Nelson Fitness Center, including management of Fitness Assistant and Fitness Supervisor roles. You will support the Fitness and Wellness Manager in special events and programming both in the Nelson Fitness Center and across campus. Responsibilities include managing equipment repairs and preventative maintenance, as well as assisting with the development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of recreation and fitness services for students, faculty, staff, and recreation members.
Responsibilities
- Administer daily operations of the Nelson Fitness Center, including staffing and programming.
- Manage Fitness Assistant and Fitness Supervisor positions.
- Support special events and programming in the Nelson Fitness Center and on campus.
- Oversee equipment repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Assist in developing, implementing, promoting, and evaluating recreation and fitness services for the Brown community.
- Ensure compliance with NCAA, Ivy League rules, and divisional ethical standards; report any violations to the compliance office.
- Participate in annual NCAA rules education and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Sports Management, Kinesiology, Recreation, Administration, or a related field.
- 1-2 years of related experience with progressive responsibility in fitness and collegiate recreation.
- Knowledge of business operations, financial operations, scheduling, facility operations, and risk management preferred.
- Current certification from NSCA, NASM, ACE, or ACSM preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in current fitness and wellness programming trends, including fitness testing, group fitness, and/or personal training.
- Experience with marketing, social media promotional campaigns, and website content management.
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and knowledge of diversity strategies in University Athletics and Recreation.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and programmatic thinking skills.
