About the role

Works with other Service programs to guide and coordinate activities on private lands that will benefit threatened and endangered species and migratory birds. Collaborates with National, State, and local conservation organizations to develop partnerships that leverage Service resources for habitat work. Develops Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) or Cooperative Agreements with partner organizations for approval by the appropriate Service official to implement joint funding efforts and habitat initiatives. Seeks opportunities for the PFW program to complement and support priorities of other Service programs and ecosystem teams. Conducts quality control reviews on accomplishment reporting through databases such as HabITS to ensure accurate reporting and provides updates to Partners for Fish and Wildlife (PFW) field staff on changes to reporting requirements. Represents the Service at public meetings concerning private lands conservation issues with significant impacts on resources, agricultural, or business, or with strong political involvement. Trains, mentors, and coordinates work efforts between private lands staff and other team members and oversees project management.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

• Basic Educational Requirement: Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines, or a combination of education and experience. Transcripts must be submitted.
• Specialized Experience (GS-12): At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, including:
  • Coordinating conservation projects in upland or stream habitats that conserve or restore native vegetation, hydrology, and soils associated with imperiled ecosystems;
  • Developing partnerships with private landowners and other external partners to implement landscape scale habitat restoration;
  • Inputting accomplishment reporting in databases such as HabITS to ensure adequate reporting;
  • Participating in the development of statewide, regional, or national private lands habitat restoration policies and procedures.
