About the role
The Department of Mental Health is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Fiscal Officer II vacancies related to the homelessness crisis. Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
Responsibilities
- Plans, assigns, directs, and evaluates the work of the accounting, cashiering, supply, payroll, statistical, data processing, and other staff or service activities of a department.
- Makes recommendations concerning the management and investment of large funds.
- Prepares highly technical financial analysis and projections.
- Negotiates and administers revenue producing agreements.
- Formulates, analyzes, and negotiates departmental operating and program budgets as needed.
- Advises and consults with management concerning the accounting and financial implications of existing and projected departmental operations.
- Supervises or personally conducts cost, revenue, and accounting systems and procedures studies.
- Writes reports of findings and secures approval for implementation of recommendations.
- Collaborates with other divisions, departments, and clientele to coordinate work.
- Acts as immediate assistant to a higher-level fiscal officer.
Requirements
- Minimum requirements: 21 semester or 32 quarter units of accounting in an accredited college or university including at least two courses in cost accounting, governmental accounting, or auditing.
- Option I: One (1) year of highly responsible fiscal administrative experience at the level of Fiscal Officer I.
- Option II: Two (2) years of supervisory accounting experience at the level of a Senior Accountant, Senior Accountant-Auditor, Senior Accounting Systems Analyst, Accounting Officer II or higher.
Qualifications
- Valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Special Requirements
- Include a legible copy of official transcripts within seven (7) calendar days from date of filing application submission.
- Foreign degrees must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited institutions standards by an academic credential evaluation agency recognized by The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE).
- Official Transcript is defined as a transcript that bears the college seal and states "official and/or copy" issued by the school's Registrar Office.
- A printout of the transcript from the school's website is NOT considered official and; therefore, will NOT be accepted and may result in your application being incomplete or rejected.
